Backpacking survival guide

Some tourists with backpack in the mountainsBackpacking is the best way to travel without spending a lot of money, while also providing the opportunity to learn about the places you are visiting. The best advice for the first-time backpackng is get as much information as you can about the place you are about to visit.

Learn about local customs and traditions; find out what are the most recommended places to visit and the local people like to do with their spare time. If you are going to a foreign country, try to be informed about social issues and avoid visiting violent places. It is also good to know about the quality of the water and food so you will not end up with a really bad stomach infection.

Plan

A great backpacking experience begins with proper planning. If you book hotels and day tours in advance, you can be sure that you have a reserved spot even when it is high season. Booking is also the best way to get lower prices. Planning ahead will let you know what you need to take with you: are you travelling in a rainy season? Is the weather cold or hot? Will you need to take medicines with you, or can you buy them there if you need them? Try to ask all the questions that come to your mind, it is better to ask too much than to get to the place only to find you don’t have what you need.

Respect

Backpacking is a type of tourism in which people tend to get closer to local people and their culture. The key to being a great traveler and to enjoy each experience as much as possible is to respect other cultures and try to learn about them. Keep your eyes and your mind open and enjoy!
